EducationWG&R UK Limited provides specialist
engineering resource for the delivery and support of Information Technology
services on the University of Newcastle Campus.
These include computing, data networks, telecommunications (voice), and
related facilities. On Campus, we provide the necessary levels of expertise
to ensure the proper operation of computing services for students, faculty
and staff. This includes student labs, faculty and administrative offices,
and general access points. Services include phone communication,
network access to shared resources (i.e. email and the internet) new
infrastructure configuration and installation.
Recently completed in October this year, was a large,
phased Cat 6 LSZH Brand Rex installation at Newcastle University on behalf
of large building contractors Sir Robert McAlpine.
The project, named Medspan, was a refurbishment and
upgrade of classrooms, laboratories, lecture theatres and offices costing
the University many millions.
Our part in the project was to identify redundant IT
cabling in sometimes occupied areas and to replace and add to it new Cat 6
cabling totalling approx 5,000 new outlets and cables.
Alongside the project Medspan work, came many changes
and additions known as non-contract areas. WG&R’s adaptability and
flexibility proved very useful to McAlpine's and the University. As a result
we were also awarded another contract directly from Newcastle University, a
new cabling infrastructure - Castle Leazes Halls of Residence, providing new
Cat 6 cabling to every bedroom and fibre links between all the buildings.
Castle Leazes was again finished on schedule during the
University’s summer break, with the installation totalling 350 outlets. |
