News Item: Firm steps on the gas for big savings
PETROL prices are soaring to an all-time high.
But one Huddersfield company has found a way
to beat the crippling taxes.
WG&R UK Ltd, based in Blackmoorfoot Road,
Crosland Moor, have added 10 new vans to their
fleet fuelled by liquid propane gas (LPG).
Now it costs only 25.5p a litre to power the vans,
less than a third of the price for unleaded or diesel
fuel.
Transport manager Barrie Puckering said: "The liquid propane gas vehicles
are so much cheaper to run and also a lot cleaner and better for the
environment".
"The Government is trying to encourage people to use LPG because it is
greener and they even give grants to companies towards some of the
conversion cost".
"Another plus is we do not have to pay the congestion charge when we go into
London which would otherwise be £5 a day".
"This is very important to us because we will shortly have 16 of these
vehicles working from London to our office".
WG&R was set up 16 years ago and installs cables for telephone and computer
connections for a huge list of clients including most of the major high
street banks.
The new Vauxhall Astra vans will be clocking up the miles across the country
which makes the saving on fuel even more important.
Mr. Puckering said: "We do have some vehicles which are still either petrol
or diesel but we will certainly replace them with LPG in the future.
There is very little difference between a normal van’s performance and one
of ours.
I do think more and more companies will start using LPG because of the huge
savings you can make on the fuel".
