Health
WG&R has a proven track record within the health sector, successfully designing bespoke IT solutions to hospitals, clinics, private surgeries, nursing homes and hospices throughout the country.
Working within the health sector we have successfully completed projects through out the country, from small clinics and doctors surgeries we have worked on critical projects deploying wireless patient monitoring in specialised cardiac units to Wide Area Microwave networks connecting several hospitals.
Our capabilities used in the health sector also include wide area microwave networks, connecting multiple hospitals,
clinics and surgeries.
Applications include remote monitoring/consultation fast secure transfer of patient records and theatre training.
Case Study
The system removed the possibility of patient record transfer delays. Doctors could now access clinical records (including x-rays) instantly. The plan was to link 200 out lying Doctors surgeries through the hospitals and given full immediate access to the clinical records.
The scheme involved a wireless wide area network using microwave technology. Transmission was generated via circular antenna situated on each of the hospital roofs, which in turn were directed towards each other, using line of sight. Where terrain, buildings, or other obstacles were a problem, signals would be directed to third party mast providers and then redirected to the respective hospitals.
Transmission speeds were 3 megabit between the larger hospitals and 1 megabit sectioned for smaller hospitals.
NHS required five outlying hospitals linking to a central city hospital. The objective being to improve communications and increase information flow enabling the use of emerging technologies such as telemedicine and remote surgery (whereby a consultant can oversee an operation being carried out in real time in a different location).
| Project: | NHS Wide Area Microwave Network |
| Project scope: | WG&R's scope was to carry out a feasibility study, design and obtain planning permissions from the various local councils involved and acquire a permit for deployment of the dishes on the hospital buildings through the various hospital property / engineering departments. WG&R were also required to install, commission and maintain the system, as well as applying for Oftel permission to deploy the scheme via the UK radio licensing authority . |
| Project value: | 375K GBP |
| Time scale: | 9 months |
| Summary: | Delivered a high-speed private network on time and within budget. |
| Benefits: | As well as providing significant and instant transmission speed benefits, numerous applications were able to be employed, over the new network and leased lines became redundant, thus introducing large savings to the client. |
