Case Study: Shropshire NHS
Shropshire NHS operates a
number of hospitals within its district, plus over 200 GP surgeries and
clinics. They asked WG&R to design and install a broadband telecoms
system that would link all sites to the principal hospital, the Royal
Shrewsbury.
The problem: The client needed a private system that would
deliver reliable and accurate broadband applications to each of its sites
enabling them to share data and records instantly, as well as access x-ray
results and communicate via video link.

The solution: In order to keep down costs and avoid spoiling the
landscape, we used two shared masts which gave us perfect positioning.
One at Wrekin and one at Brown Clee.

These connected each of the five district hospitals to the main site up
to 40 kilometres away in Shrewsbury. 200 doctor's surgeries also
had their own private broadband link via their PCs. In addition to
accessing records and sharing best practice, the system enabled
'telemedicine' to be practiced whereby a specialist consultant in one
location could oversee a procedure in another via a video link.
