Wireless Wide Area NetworksIn the same way that
broadband internet has revolutionised communication, private fixed wireless
systems from WG&R are revolutionising the way that it is now delivered.
In a nutshell, it's faster, more reliable and cheaper too.
Unlike the traditional method that uses fibre technology delivered
through cables, wireless broadband requires no costly and time consuming
digging up of roads or countryside. Instead it uses the latest
radio-wave technology to transmit broadband content at greater speed over
land.
What's more, thanks to its much greater bandwidth, it can handle loads
more data and applications - up to 155Mb or even 1Gb - making it the perfect
delivery system for both now and in the future.
How it works
The following diagrams illustrate a typical configuration of a fixed
wireless system (see diagram 2), plus a simplified demonstration of how
wireless broadband is transmitted over distance. Wireless broadband
technology can be delivered from around 2Ghz up to 60Ghz and the distances
between points can be extended using repeaters that link together masts, as
illustrated in diagram 1.

Planning the design of the system is crucial to its effectiveness and 75%
of our time is spent at this stage with the remaining 25% being taken up by
installation. Using advanced mapping software that shows the exact
location of every mast, we first study the terrain in order to arrive at the
most accurate path calculation. This involves use of GPS technology as
well as visual line-of-sight test, the checking of Ordnance Survey maps, and
the measuring of terrain above sea level.
